Describing
each student's contributions and promise, Payne's words resounded
through the theater, bringing smiles to the two recipients and those
filling the seats of the packed theater as well.
Morita will
be attending Northern Arizona University, double majoring in business
management and theater. "As a future goal, I hope to
one day place my college knowledge to use by managing my own theater.
I would like the opportunity to advance the programs and conditions
of an already existing theater or be a part of creating a new
theater," she wrote in her letter of application to the scholarship
committee.
Cupo's goal is to become a Broadway lighting designer, and he
will be attending Northern Arizona University as well. "I
have worked nearly every existing backstage roll," he wrote
in his letter to the scholarship committee. "My love of the
technical aspects of theater is my main goal for pursuing Theater
Education and Technical Theater majors." Cupo assured the
committee in his letter: "To me, theater still has purpose,
still has magic, still has influence ".
DFT Chairman
Toby Payne was joined on stage by Susan Vanik, President of the
Foothills Community Association, Kevin Green, the DFT Artistic
Director, and Louise Rosenburgh, the incoming Foothills Community
Association President to present the awards.
