District displays new social studies textbooks

DVUSD - The Deer Valley Unified School District has begun the process to support the newly approved Arizona Social Studies Standards for K 12 material implementation. The public can review high school material at Sandra Day O'Connor High School, 25250 N. 35th Avenue, Phoenix, until April 4.

Grades 7 8 student and teacher materials are available at Deer Valley Middle School, 21100 N. 27th Avenue, Phoenix. Grades K 6 materials are available at Village Meadows School, 2020 W. Morningside Drive, Phoenix, until May.

Interact students send needy kids to circus

ANTHEM - The Interact students at Boulder Creek High School raised enough money from a fundraising drive to send 30 underprivileged children to Circus Chimera in Anthem March 22 23. The students decorated empty jars and collected money from peers to help those less financially fortunate.
Interact, a student run club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Anthem, focuses on securing service projects while developing leadership and teamwork skills.

Music magazine sings praises for Desert Mountain artists

DESERT HILLS - Three students from Desert Mountain School in Desert Hills have been selected as winners in the annual Music K 8 magazine cover art contest. Eighth grader Andy Felton received fourth runner up, seventh grader Marissa Coleman earned Honorable Mention and seventh grader Samantha Reynolds was named a contest finalist.
More than 14,000 students from across the United States, Austria and Australia submitted entries. See the winning pieces at www.musick8.com.

Diamond Canyon educator named Wal Mart's Teacher of the Year

ANTHEM - Leslie Pacimeo, an eighth grade Language Arts teacher at Diamond Canyon, was named as the Anthem Wal Mart's Teacher of the Year. The winners were chosen based on community nominations.
Pacimeo received a $1,000 donation to the school and is eligible for state and national honors.

Guitarists hope to strike judges' chords during festival

PHOENIX - Guitar students from Sandra Day O'Connor High School will perform in the Forum Music Festival in California April 7 for rating and critique by nationally recognized judges. The 70 intermediate and advanced guitar students will spend the night at Disneyland Resort and spend one day at Disneyland or Disney's California's Adventure.
