Eagles stop long losing skid
by Jason Stone

DVUSD - It was not the kind of week Sandra Day O'Connor baseball coach Jeff Baumgartner was hoping for when his Eagles began their own tournament last week.

But it all ended well as the Eagles nipped out of state Faith Lutheran 11 10 March 25 to snap a season high, six game losing streak.

O'Connor had not won since March 6 before beating Faith Lutheran, but hopes that win will give the team momentum going into this week with four games in four days against out of state schools to wrap up the round robin tournament.
The Eagles roped out 15 hits against Faith Lutheran and a five run fourth inning broke open a 4 3 game. Nick Carrillo hit a home run and drove in five runs, and Travis Lane collected two doubles as O'Connor hit five as a team. Five Eagles also got at least two hits.

O'Connor was also aggressive on the bases against Faith Lutheran, stealing six out of seven stolen base attempts. Bryant Burnett and Adrian Ramirez each had two apiece.

The win helped take the edge off losses to Montgomery Bell and Pinnacle in the tournament earlier in the week. Montgomery Bell scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning March 22 to pull out a 13 8 win over O'Connor, despite 13 hits from the Eagles.

Pinnacle then held O'Connor to six hits and two runs two nights later in an 8 2 win.

After playing Highland Ranch, Monarch, Lake Oswego and West Linn (all out of state teams) this week, O'Connor (5 11 entering the week) will return to Northwest Region play April 4 with their first varsity game against Boulder Creek.

O'Connor has started out 1 3 in the region.
